CRANBORNE YOUTH’S MOMENT OF GLORY
Its been a great last 48 hours in the history of Cranborne Circuit and the celebrations have not yet died down after the gigantic success of the Cranborne Youth Choir at the Harare East District Music festivals held on 1 May 2019 at Chisipite Circuit.
In the year that the church is celebrating 30 years in ministry, the perennial music powerhouse chose the anniversary year to bring what many hope will be the first of many trophies with the MUMC and the Main Choir still to sing.
For the second year in succession, the festivals were held on the very same day as last year and Chisipite provided the setting for a colourful day of music and drama on a sun drenched Wednesday morning.
History has a great way of repeating itself and it is safe to say whenever Cranborne perform at Chisipite, success is guaranteed.
In the last half a decade, Cranborne has excelled in that particular sanctuary on the music front, always finishing in the top three everytime Chisipite hosts with the best case scenarios being the Main Choir winning twice the district festivals in the period under review.
On Wednesday, the youth choir ensured the good form continues as they picked the last ballot and held their nerves to produce an audacious performance in front of scores of music enthusiasts.
The 97 bar song titled Count your blessings was a classic yet a testing song with choirs doing all they could to hit the right chords.
It took a masterstroke prior to the presentation to clinch it as Cranborne adjusted a critical area in the song overlooked by many and this made the difference.
Cranborne clinch the title ahead of Ruwa and last year’s winners Prospect for their first district title in as many years.
Cranborne’s triumph sparked delirious celebrations back home with social media platforms jammed with congratulatory messages.
The choir will proceed to the conference music festivals in June where they will aim to better last year’s performance.
The drama act finished tenth with Mabvuku eventually winning the category for the second consecutive year.
It was a befitting performance for the archives matching the mood home with the youth singing clad in the anniversary gear and the celebrations will surely reach fever pitch on Sunday as the choir will parade their shining accolade with a rousing reception expected befitting of champions.
Indeed, all hail the new District youth music champions – Cranborne UMYF.
