TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR MAI GUMBO

Tributes have started pouring in from Cranborners and people around the world following the death this afternoon of church stalwart Mrs Stembiso Gumbo.

Mrs Gumbo collapsed in the church sanctuary as the Reverend was giving benediction and was pronounced dead minutes later, plunging Cranborne into mourning.

As news filtered through, Cranborners stood outside the sanctuary, many visibly shocked at the unexpected turn of events.

Mrs Gumbo served in various positions in the church and recently was the chairperson for Agriculture before being part of the Stewardship Committee that has broke the harvest target in successive years.

On Christmas Day. she recounted a good year in which she told the congregation she never expected to be around, singing a Christmas carol as thanksgiving for making it to the end.

News of her passing has been met with shock with many taking to social media to pay glowing tributes to this gentle giant.

A service has been held this evening at her home in Braeside with MUMC Chairman Mr Kenneth Nakoma giving the keynote sermon as he encouraged Christians to do the best they can whilst the time is presented.

Funeral arrangements are still to be finalised as the family await the arrival of her son Owen and other relatives overseas.

Mourners are gathered at 5 Gibson Road, Braeside, Harare.

Services will continue from 7pm during the duration of the funeral wake.
